Listening on Social Media

Social media has been one of the biggest forms of communication over the past 20 years. One things that social media users have learned over the last year, with the pandemic hitting, is that social media is not only a way to mass communicate your thoughts and ideas, it is also a way of listening and growing. Social media has become one of the biggest forms of communication around the world.

There are multiple reasons to listen on social media. It is important to listen to your following and your consumers and getting an idea of who they are. Understanding your audiences needs is key to having a successful brand. Being able to grow and change along with your audience is completely necessary to building and growing your brand, whether that be a company or your personal brand.

Another good example of why you should be listening on social media is because you want to be able to grow and change what you’re posting. It is good to have some sort of consistency when posting for your brand but you want to keep things interesting. Eventually, if you keep posting the same exact things, your following will get bored with your lack of growth on the platform.

The third form of listening on social media is following keywords and hashtags. It is important to listen and follow along with what is relevant and what is being talked about on social media. Having a specific brand and way of posting for that brand is great, but finding ways to incorporate your brand with what is happening in the world is key in getting more people to click and interact with your posts. Twitter has a page where it shows the reader what is trending in the world on that platform at that time. Using this page and hashtags when you are trying to build and grow your brand are important because it allows you to use those key words to try and get more clicks.

Following along with trends and new aspects to social media are very important when it comes to building your brand. For example, following along and participating in the new aspects of each social media is key. Facebook introduced their “facebook live” in August of 2015, if you can get involved and grow your brand while using all of the new features, this will help immensely.

Social media is a constantly growing idea that every person who is trying to grow their brands need to try and keep up with. Social listening will always be a key component with being successful on social media with the changing in demographics and aspects to different platforms.
