July 2019 Issue of The LocaL

For our online edition this month, I’ve decided to embed the magazine directly onto the magazine’s Wordpress. This is my first attempt at working with PDFs on the platform. Unlike video and audio, Wordpress requires a plugin to embed PDFs. I’m not happy with the layout, but given time I’m sure I’ll finesse all the moving pieces into a more pleasing arrangement.

I also met with Norm Easterbrook, executive director, and Jim Rutland, program director, of the RiverCenter. They and the whole team are doing some really special things, and we’re going to work closely with them to help spread the good news. Special thanks to Carrie Corbett, marking director, for keeping me in the loop.

Bobbi Yeo gives us the latest from Paws Humane Society and Mat Cornett offers his take on sangria. Joe Miller’s World Cup-themed movie recommendations are almost as great as Megan Rapinoe’s playing, and Lily G’s fitness advice will help you get your diet on track — even if you’re not trying to reach Rapinoe’s fitness level.

Two sponsored content pieces are in this week, and both are genuinely worthy content for the magazine — that’s something Monica curates well, insuring paid content fits our model and has inherent value for readers. ThreadMob is a locally-owned custom apparel shop with some cool dropshipping options, and Cafe le Rue is the best Cajun restaurant within a fifty-mile radius.
