Workplace truth is about acting with integrity and being honest about what information / messages you communicated with Management, fellow colleagues, and clients. Workplace truth can be said to be distorted when employees act contrary to the organization’s culture and are found to be dishonest and untrustworthy. This can be seen in the way they lie about the status of tasks assigned to them, supply of incorrect feedbacks, fabrication of numbers and many more.

Distortion of truth-telling poses a huge danger to the employee and the organization at large. When the truth is distorted,

1. The employee cannot measure their actual performance rate, neither can they work on their weakness nor improve on their strengths.

2. It kills the speed of delivery as there is no transparency on the status of things.

3. It impedes collaboration amongst employees as cannot trust each other because of lack of integrity, and quality-decision making.

4. It brews conflicts amongst co-workers

6. It encourages redundancies which greatly affects workplace productivity

Distortion of truth in the workplace is disastrous to an organization that intends to grow. All employees must discipline themselves to uphold the truth at any point in time. The truth will proffer better ways of doing things, initiate new solutions, provide opportunities to learn, strengthen trusted relationships, foster greater collective responsibilities, mitigate risk and encourage better decision making.
