User requirement document framework for Product Managers

The framework is Situation- Motivation- Outcome/Goal and Questions.

This framework is used to collect requirements or write a 1 pager product spec.

Situation; This is a brief description of the current situation, the problem, how its being currently handled, and its impact as simply as possible in a few lines. This document should contain any technical terms. It should be plain and in simple English.

Motivation; This is the reason behind the situation, why the problem or current situation, exists. What habits or factors drive the current situation.

Outcome; What are you trying to achieve and a short mention of ideas you have to solve the problem without going into detail e.g. A feature, a form, etc.

Questions/ Assumptions; I added this bit. It's a section used to record questions from your potential solution. Ideas, Assumptions you need to validate, questions you need to be answered before you start to work on a solution.

This document is meant to be shared with relevant stakeholders. Get everyone's input, make changes as you get feedback from customers, users, etc. It will guide you to delivering other product documents.

See below is a link to a sample of how I applied it.
