Designing for the Customer

AA KENYA

Therefore this article and the others that will follow, are not pitched at the companies mentioned, is not an endorsement of any of them nor do we work for any of them. The views on this article are strictly mine based on creative thinking, problem solving and our corporate (MobiDev) ability to identifying market opportunities and come up with ways to make the most of them. So let’s do this.

Back to my friend’s experience:

1. Her course period was longer (30 days compulsory). The school I attended, it was pretty much self paced, from what I observed, you could go for 2 days or 2 months. (I may have been accused of exaggerated observations in the past).

2. Classes being compulsory, students needed to complete as much theory as practical ones. Where I went, I did one theory class and as many practical sessions as I can count on the fingers of one hand.

3. Finally and most amazing, they get an automatic 6 months full membership into the AA club.

To realise how significant the 3rd point is, you need to understand what being an AA member means:

1. Rescue services

2. Car Valuation

3. Road Mapping

4. Training Services and many more.

After learning this, I immediately embarked on finding out how I can join and become a member. I found there was two main options that could be used, first was to visit AA offices or second, and the preferred option, visit their website.

It seems they were providing two different links for the same purpose or very similar services.

What if AA Kenya had an app though?

The first thing you would expect a bunch of designers to suggest is a killer app with glossy pixels and flawless gradients. All that is valid and has its place, but the ultimate goal should be to ensure increase in subscriptions (growth) and conversions (adoption and retention) for the business and the services offered. We cooked up some suggestions, read on.

These are just but random suggestions for what’s possible. Am sure there is more that AA Kenya could do with an app like this to give much more accessibility to their services for members and wanna be members like me.

For now we can only hope this will not remain a dream for long. And if AA Kenya comes knocking for an opportunity to work together to make this a reality, we shall do a follow up on this one.
