How Often You Think About Something Says a Lot About You

Dive into what makes you lose track.

Today I took an unexpected 4-hour break in my writing session. No, I didn’t change my plans. No, I didn’t do anything useful. All I did was procrastinate and ramble online.

I agreed wholeheartedly when I first heard it. Now, I think there’s something deeper to it.

It’s not what you talk about a lot. That’s only the surface. Most writers are aware that what they talk about all the time is good material to write about. What about what makes you lose track of time though? What does it say about yourself?

When you don’t know what moves you, you can’t lean into it. You just happen to feel pleasure when a situation happens to fit you. When you know what excites you, you can create an exciting life.

Happiness isn’t something you craft. Happiness is a byproduct of living your life on your terms. When you don’t know your terms, happiness flies under the radar.

Self-reflection is crucial because it helps you discover who you are.

Had I not reflected on my life in the middle of the night in the summer of 2018, I may have spent years before discovering my passion for writing. Had I not reflected on my writing, at the end of my 1-year writing challenge, I may not have continued.

Self-reflection isn’t just about finding what you love. It’s just as much about finding what you dislike.

Had I not used writing as a therapy method, I may not have noticed what I hated about my life. I could have spent my life unsatisfied by my actions. Had I not reflected on my most impactful relationship when it ended, I may not have learned anything from it and repeated the same mistakes in my next relationship.
