Farewell to Buddy the Internet Dog

Thursday was a hard day.
My sons and I said goodbye to Buddy the Internet Dog.
Many of my long time students said something like this over on Facebook:
“ We grew up with Buddy!”
“We got our training from you and Buddy!”

17 years.
Buddy thanks for a damn good run of 15 years. I remember the day we picked you up at the dog rescue event.
We were about ready to leave because most of the dogs were missing a leg or other severe injuries. Great dogs but not want I wanted for my sons first dog.
As we started to walk out Jon said: “Dad, look!”
And we saw you.
I knew the woman running the show, so I walked over to her and told her we’d like to see that one after the people walking him are done. She said: “I’m sorry Jeff, I think those people want him.”
Me: “What’s the suggested donation today?”
Her: “It’s $150 today.”
Me: “No it’s not. It’s $300.”
Her: “I’ll be right back”
As you settled in the back of the van for the ride home you sighed a deep sigh of contentment that said:
”I’m home”
Jon was 12, Caleb was 5, and I was 49 when you joined our family. Jon is 27, Caleb is 20, and I turn 64 today. Thanks for growing up with us.
As you crossed the Rainbow Bridge in my arms yesterday with Jon and Caleb petting you, you sighed that same “I’m home” sigh. Thanks for letting us know.
While we miss you, enjoy running around full speed with a big grin on your face and your tongue hanging out.
Say hello to God for us. We’ll see you later. Cuz if there aren’t dogs in heaven then I’m re-evaluating everything…
