This is a common question many are either unwilling to answer. Some give vague answers such as ‘money’, ‘fame’, and ‘happiness.’ These answers are essentially end results that hardly highlight the true meaning of life or the process that leads to them.

Alluding to the emphasis on results, the media swarms around great men and women with generic lists such as, ‘The world’s most influential people’ and ‘Top X richest people.’ Achievers who earn this spotlight include sportsmen, actors, business moguls, and political leaders.

However, beyond the glitz you now see, there’s been a rough path that’s embedded so bad you can’t seem to reckon with it. Hence, the emphasis on celebrity success is misguided without the underlying story of career choice and the treacherous path to success.

That’s To Say…

By default, your career choice might have been influenced by such media-hyped success stories from a young age. If you are anything like us, you found as time passed that you didn’t like your initial career path as much as you thought which leads to impulsive career changes over time. Here are two common paths to career choices we have identified:

1. Impulse

Many youngsters choose their careers on impulse. However, only a small percentage of people who use this method become successful.

The impulsive selection method of careers is characterised by people who made their careers choices based on family trends, solidarity with friends, the prestige accorded a profession, and what the media says. Such a shallow base for selecting a profession has been the pitfalls of many. Unfortunately, the solution isn’t anywhere near.

2. Passion

On the flip side, discovering your passion is a guaranteed way to finding a career path you’d love to stick to but it’s never an easy task. Upon discovery, it takes time to convince family and friends about what you want to do. Therefore, it’s not surprising that many sideline this method in their career selection process.

The passion selection process is characterised by people who make career choices based on their personal strengths, skills and hobbies. Hence, they are able to choose a career and stick to doing it without any extra motivation.

We opine that…

How We Got Here…

With gut instincts, a young and vibrant team chose to investigate what sort of relationship multiple successful individuals had with their jobs. It was discovered that most had passions for their fields and this had been firmly established before they knew they would be a success.

Thus, in what seemed like a love relationship with their jobs these individuals had a dedicated approach to work. Such work ethic, the team concluded was not based on a shallow excuse to do something but rather a profound mindset.

Hence, a major question that addresses the larger majority currently in the job market stemmed from these discussions,

The word ‘Hobby’ earned the spotlight during the discussions, its definition,

So, another question followed,

Since the average individual has at least a hobby, it means there has to be a way every individual can make a living from their hobbies. The team, therefore, redefined ‘jobs’ to be ‘hobbies’ which would require your active inquisition into how to infuse your hobby into your daily work ethic or make it the main job you do.

From these discussions, ‘Hoblife’ was borne out of the dire need to emphasise the importance of leveraging only what we love to do as our primary jobs. ‘Hoblife’ was created as a conflate of the words ‘hobby’ and ‘life’ which gave life to its mantra.

At Hoblife we say,
