SoundCloud is built for the users

The leading and perhaps most unique algorithm that Soundcloud uses is it’s “play related tracks” feature. Soundcloud uses this algorithm to recommend new tracks for a user based on genres tagged and songs liked by people you follow. From early on, this feature is something that has made me stay on Soundcloud for years. I’ve found a countless number of new artists and songs simply from the autoplay feature. Sometimes Soundcloud will even play songs from the same artist, that are posted on different accounts — many in which are new to me. Finding new music on Soundcloud is hassle free and hands free. Once you reach the end of a playlist or a single song, these suggested songs play immediately. This algorithm powers the discovery aspect of Soundcloud. Along with the play related tracks feature, Soundcloud also gives you suggestions based on songs you play often. These can be found under the “More of what you like” tab on the home page. As of February 2019, it was reported that over 200 million songs had been uploaded to the service.

One of the leading discussions around Soundcloud is its ability to serve as an excellent alternative for aspiring musicians. Soundcloud provides a much more direct connection with fans than standard streaming services like Apple Music or Spotify. Soundcloud is the quinnesential streaming social media service. Instead of text or pictures, users are only allowed to post audio tracks. The direct part comes from how quick and easy it is to upload to Soundcloud. Artists do not have to go through any distribution or worry about sample clearances — your song can be uploaded within 5 minutes of you completing it. All for free. I’ve found that many songs on Soundcloud are not on other streaming services because of copyright issues. Producers that “rework” beats or, DJ’s that upload mixes(including songs that are not theirs), or artists simply remixing songs have all found leisure in being able to upload their work to Soundcloud with little worry.
