Launching Out

What do you want in life is a question many are unwilling to answer. Some give vague answers such as ‘money’, ‘fame’, and ‘happiness.’ but these are only...

The GR Evolution From A Glove To A Bracelet And Beyond

It all began with an idea; an idea designed to breathe life into gestures so they would have a voice of their own. This was the foundation of our work on the application which would, in time, provide invaluable acoustic representation of sign language, translating it thus into speech sound. An application that would enable a large segment of our society to do something fundamentally natural that we take as granted: lead a dialogue.

With the passage of time, the idea began to condense and gain contours; it became a full-shaped vision and then morphed into our first challenge. The challenge, at that point, consisted primarily of making a device that would correctly account the gestures of a person. It was an ambitious and complicated task that we managed to overcome step by step. Our initial steps were pointed in the direction of making the device function at all, while afterwards they were charged with making sure it would be convenient to use as well.

Thus, the GR bracelet, as it is known today, was born. The GR bracelet, as we fondly named our creation, stands for gesture recognition. The device underwent several remodeling alterations and naturally evolved from a glove to a bracelet. We persisted and are continuing to persist in our pursuit to refine it, making it more and more compact and thus convenient, so that in time it can easily fit as an every-day belonging.

And somehow, on the way, GR became a separate project. Aspired to extend its range of functionality, we resolved to develop an SDK, onto which our team and other professionals, inspired by gesture recognition, can build diverse innovative applications.

Thus we reached the cornerstone: the moment when we have a device that converts something as artistic as a gesture into a mathematical abstraction and we are ready to launch our efforts into the developing of a translation application. We named it VELAR in honour of a group of symbols that in the Glagolitic alphabet comprise a verb which stands for talking.

And here our next challenge began, namely converting the sign language, a language of hand articulation, into a mathematical model comprehensible to a computer.

We are still working intensely on both challenges, so we are part of the community that proudly proves that science is art and art is science; and that, conjointly, they form a powerful idea generator that will propel society forwards.

It is said, that Fortune favours the brave.

And so- we rise to grasp it.
